Throughout 2019, we supported The Hugs Foundation by having them as our company chosen charity of the year. By holding cake sales, running half marathons, bucket collections and many other activities, we are extremely pleased to say that we raised a total of £3,244.16 for the charity.
We are delighted to have decided to support The Hugs Foundation for a further year throughout 2020.Read More
On 6th-8th December, we are exhibiting at the Fowey Christmas Market, one of Cornwall’s most well-known Christmas events with a rich history of providing over 12,000 visitors with quality, locally produced food, drink and festive gifts.
From 11th-19th December, we are also exhibiting at the Truro Winter Gift Fayre, which aims to become one of Cornwall’s most well-known Christmas events, with theming that encapsulates the spirit of winter magic and Christmas festivities with decorations and warm twinkling lights.
At both shows, we will be exhibiting our new branded Furniss jute bags and beautiful Christmas range.
The Health and Wellbeing of our colleagues at Furniss is of utmost importance to us, and it is amazing to have recognition for the work undertaken – with many more exciting plans for the future.
The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Workplace Health Award is a county standard of good practice and a quality mark of Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace. The aim of the award is to act as a toolkit to encourage employers to think about ways to improve the health and wellbeing of their employees.
We will continue to put the staff wellbeing as our key strategic objective, and understand the importance of health in the relation to happiness, productivity and engagement.
We’re extremely excited to launch our fabulous new “Delights” range into the biscuit market. The range is available in both skillet and drum format, perfect for the every-day eat occasion or as a beautiful gift. The bold and modern packaging, specifically designed to stand out on the shelf, has been illustrated by our in-house graphic designer to represent each tasty flavour.
The flavours include a chocolate chip oat crunchie, a blossom honey oat crunchie – which are both palm oil free – Sicilian lemon crisp and a dark chocolate chip ginger.
We love creating new and exceptional biscuits, just as our founder John Cooper Furniss, did back in 1886. His passion for using only the best ingredients, sourced locally where possible, and exacting attention to detail quickly secured Furniss a reputation for serving the tastiest biscuits in town. Our talented development chef has created this beautiful biscuit range to incorporate modern trends, to the same exacting high quality that Furniss has become renowned for.
Today, we bake as we have always done: in Cornwall, driven by the history of John Cooper Furniss and his passion for creating the best products possible.
We’re delighted to have retained our Gold Healthy Workplace Award.
The Cornwall and Isles of Scilly workplace Health Award is a county standard of good practice and a quality mark of health and wellbeing in the workplace. The aim of the award is to act as a toolkit to encourage employers to think about ways to improve the health and wellbeing of their employees. The health and wellbeing of all 240 colleagues here at Proper Cornish and Furniss is so important to us, and it’s fantastic to have recognition for the work undertaken over the last two years with many more plans in the future.
We will continue to put staff wellbeing as a key strategic objective, and understand the importance of health in the relation to happiness, productivity and engagement.
As part of our commitment to health, wellbeing and the environment, we have joined the Refill Cornwall campaign, whereby members of the public can call into Reception at Proper Cornish or Furniss to refill their water bottles with tap water. Currently less than 30% of people in the UK drink tap water in a reusable bottle, despite the fact we are lucky to have some of the best quality, free drinking water in the world. Refill makes refilling a reusable water bottle easy and more socially acceptable than buying a single-use plastic drinks bottle. If just one in ten Brits refilled once a week, we’d have 340 million less plastic bottles in circulation and help to prevent the plastic pollution from entering our rivers and seas. We are committed to reducing the use of single use plastics, so we are delighted to have signed up for this scheme. We now appear on Refill Cornwall’s website, and stickers are displayed in our windows to promote that we are a Refill Cornwall Centre.
We are delighted to announce that our colleague charity for 2019 is The Hugs Foundation. A fantastic new equine rescue charity based in Bodmin, servicing the whole of Cornwall, they are working to not only provide a rescue and rehabilitation centre for horses, ponies and other animals, but also to offer counselling and equine/animal therapy to vulnerable adults, young people and to those suffering from poor mental health. We are looking forward to working with this fabulous charity in 2019. Follow the link to learn more about the wonderful work they do.
We are absolutely delighted that our Cornish Clotted Cream Shortbread with Strawberries was awarded Gold at the recent Taste of the West Awards. Here at our bakery this is a firm favourite, so it’s brilliant that is has been recognised by the Taste of the West Awards.
