We’ll Let You in on a Secret…

She gives Furniss biscuits their unique ‘home-baked’ taste.

She’s the reason why, when you open a pack of Furniss Fairings they don’t come out all the same but vary in shape and shade – just as if you made them yourself.

She’s the working heart of Furniss even though she’s nearly a pensioner.

And here’s a picture of her in all her glory…

Over the years, we’ve had many opportunities (and much advice) to do away with her in the name of progress. And though we’ve installed state-of-the-art machinery for some of our products, at the centre of the Furniss factory she still stands proud – our 60-year-old oven.

We love our old oven. So much so that when we moved to Redruth in the 1980s, she came too, piece by piece, and was painstakingly reassembled, despite the extra cost

Yes, she’s a bit temperamental and if you were taking a walk around our production line you might hear one of the old-hands cursing her affectionately to life. She demands extra effort, and patience.

But it’s all worth it. Because she bakes beautiful biscuits.

125 years ago, John Cooper Furniss founded Furniss Foods. From the beginning, he raised the company on pride, innovation and an exceptional palate. He used only the best ingredients, sourced locally wherever possible; he trusted and encouraged the skills of his workers; and he perfected recipes that had been handed down for generations.

Today, we follow the same simple approach in everything we do – because it makes for great biscuits.
