Iconic Cornish Biscuit Brand Launches New Consumer Website

Furniss of Cornwall, the iconic biscuit brand first established in a Truro tearoom in the late 1880s by master baker John Cooper Furniss, has launched a new interactive consumer website. The development of the site follows the successful re-launch of the brand in 2006, when local Bodmin handmade pasty manufacturer, Proper Cornish Food Company, jumped at the chance to acquire the famous Cornish brand.

Furniss of Cornwall is best known as the maker of the traditional Cornish Fairing and since being acquired by Proper Cornish Food Company the brand has gone from strength to strength, selling to customers across the UK and overseas. The creation of www.furniss-foods.co.uk is the next step in increasing awareness of the biscuit brand, providing the growing number of Furniss fans with greater insight into the history of the origins of Fairing biscuits, as well as access to recipes and the latest news.

Embracing the brand's Cornish roots, the Furniss website has been developed with heritage at its heart, but with a stylish and contemporary Cornish look. Genuine historic archive footage of the Furniss' Truro factory from the 1950's is a focal point of the site and an interactive memory board encourages visitors to post anecdotes and old photos from Furniss' past, helping to build a personalised view of a company.

Proper Cornish Food Company commercial director, Jane Flowerdew, comments: "As a Cornish company we see ourselves as advocates for Cornish manufacturing. Furniss of Cornwall is steeped in more than 125 years of Cornish history and its success is the product of Cornish craftsmanship and quality. We want people to interact with the brand and the new site encourages an online Furniss community to engage consumers and celebrate the heritage of Furniss biscuits still being made to some of John Cooper Furniss' traditional recipes a hundred years on."

Proper Cornish Food Company worked with digital agency Pixillion and design consultants Picador to develop an online presence for Furniss of Cornwall that revealed the personality behind the brand, reflecting both its heritage and contemporary standing as part of Proper Cornish Food Company. The website combines vibrant product shots with black and white archive photography to evoke key messages of premium, quality and tradition.
