From Redruth to Russia with Love

Redruth based biscuit company, Furniss of Cornwall, is celebrating the first of many orders placed by four upmarket Russian supermarket chains (The Seventh Continent, Azbuka Vkusa, Auchan Moscow and Perekrostock).

The first order for nearly 24,000 boxes of biscuits left Furniss on 6 December heading for Moscow. So the recent shipping will arrive in plenty of time for Christmas, which is celebrated on 7 January in Russia, allowing lots of time for Christmas shopping.

The Furniss biscuits being distributed include popular products that the company is famous for; Original Cornish Fairings, Cornish Gingerbread and Clotted Cream Shortbread.

Phil Ugalde, Managing Director of Furniss commented: "This move into the International arena is particularly significant for Furniss and a wonderful end to what has been a great year for the company. It is imperative that we move into different markets and the fact that these are four of the biggest supermarket chains in Russia is a fantastic achievement for us.

"The team here has been working hard to build relationships with International buyers and it is hoped that this is the first of many overseas orders. Our Russian order is just the first step in these traditionally crafted Cornish biscuits being enjoyed across the world."
The Furniss products being shipped to Moscow have all been relabelled with ingredients and company details in Russian, a job for which Furniss required the assistance of an expert translator. With future consignments to Russia in the pipeline, Furniss is planning to reprint biscuit packs in Russian to get rid of the need for labelling.

The order was a result of Furniss' involvement with the Food from Britain organisation, a group commissioned by the government to increase exports of UK food and drink, and to support the growth of quality regional food producers.
