Rick Stein and Furniss of Cornwall join forces - new range of savoury biscuits launches

Rick Stein will be at Furniss of Cornwall on 14th July to taste the first of his new range of savoury biscuits – hot out of the oven! The Cornish chef has joined forces with the iconic Cornish company to develop the bespoke range of biscuits that will be available from his Padstow deli.

Furniss is best known for its traditional Fairings biscuits and other sweet treats such as shortbread. This is the first time the company has produced a savoury biscuit and it has worked closely with Rick to create a range using the best possible ingredients. The oat based biscuits come in three flavours; Cornish sea salt, Davidstow cheddar and thyme.

Rick comments: “When I was a child we never left Cornwall without a couple of tins of Furniss Cornish Fairing biscuits.  They were as important to us as clotted cream and pasties.  Furniss is a great old Cornish company and it’s a pleasure to be working with them all these years later to create these lovely savoury biscuits.”

Matthew Bowern Sales Director at Furniss adds: “We’ve enjoyed the challenge of producing our first ever savoury line and hope they will prove a great success with food loving locals and visitors to the county alike.”

Rick is keen to point out that they are not just made for cheese, he explains: “They are perfect with a Cornish Blue or Yarg Cheese, but also delicious topped with smoked Cornish mackerel, or dipped in humus.  They’ve got a delightful savoury crunchiness and a great taste of baked oats.” The range of biscuits are available at Stein’s Deli, South Quay, Padstow and via the online shop at www.rickstein.com.  For more information on Furniss of Cornwall visit www.furniss-foods.co.uk.     PHOTO / INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITY:  Rick will be at the Furniss factory in Redruth (Furniss Foods Ltd, Druids Rd Redruth, Cornwall, TR15 3RW) at 12.30pm on Tuesday 14 July.
